gamescom by the numbers
Every figure links to where it came from. Attendance for an event that has not happened is a projection, and each row says so rather than presenting it as a count.

What is gamescom?
gamescom is the large public games fair at Koelnmesse in Cologne. The 2026 show runs 26 to 30 August, with Opening Night Live on 25 August. The halls mix a business area and a public entertainment area, which is why a trade badge and a consumer ticket are not the same week. Cologne Central Station to Deutz is a short hop. The show is walkable from the river once you are on that side.
Who goes to gamescom?
Two crowds share the same halls and barely overlap. Wednesday is built for trade, media and Wildcard holders. From Thursday the public fills the entertainment halls. Publishers, platform holders and service companies work the business area. If you came to play, go later in the week. If you came to sell, do not treat Saturday as your meeting day.
gamescom side events
Search gamescom side event and you will hit two different calendars. Official gamescom dev side events run around 23 to 25 August, before the public show: mixers, speaker gatherings and a curated industry list on the gamescom dev site. Unofficial nights sit in Cologne bars and Rhine venues through the public days, including publisher parties and community meetups that are posted on Eventbrite and LinkedIn rather than on gamescom.global. The City Festival and camp formats along the Rhine are the public-facing overflow. None of those nights are run by Aspire.
gamescom tickets and costs
Tickets are sold only through the official gamescom site and there are no sales at the door. A weekday day ticket is 31.50 euros and Saturday is 41, with reduced rates at 22.50 and 32, and every consumer ticket includes public transport for the day. An evening card from 16:00 is 10.50. 26 August is reserved for trade and media, with public entry that afternoon only on a Wildcard at 65.50 euros. Saturday is the crush day. Koelnmesse sits in Deutz. S-Bahn or a walk from Cologne Central Station beats a taxi at close. Hotels inside the ring sell out. Stay in Deutz or across the river and budget tram time, not a car.
- Day ticket, Thursday, Friday or SundayEUR 31.50
Reduced EUR 22.50. Every consumer ticket includes a public transport ticket for the day, which is worth more than it sounds given where Koelnmesse is. Sold online only; there are no on-site sales. gamescom.global
- Day ticket, SaturdayEUR 41
Reduced EUR 32. Saturday is the crush day and sells out earliest of the five. gamescom.global
- Evening card, from 16:00EUR 10.50
EUR 13 on the Saturday. The cheapest way in, and enough if you want to see the halls rather than queue for demos. gamescom.global
- Family ticketEUR 69.50
EUR 86 on the Saturday. gamescom.global
- Wildcard, Wednesday from 13:00EUR 65.50
The only public entry on the trade-first Wednesday, from 13:00. Business and trade passes and Opening Night Live tickets are separate products and cost more. gamescom.global
Getting to Koelnmesse
Koelnmesse is in Deutz, on the right bank of the Rhine. Koeln Messe/Deutz station is one stop from Koeln Hauptbahnhof and is the fastest way in and out. From the Hauptbahnhof you can also walk it across the Hohenzollern bridge in about twenty minutes, which beats a taxi at closing time by a wide margin.
Where to stay for gamescom
Rooms inside the Cologne ring sell out months ahead and price accordingly. Deutz puts you walking distance from the halls. Across the river in the old town is fine if you accept the tram. Duesseldorf is about thirty minutes by regional train and routinely costs half as much, which is what most people who book late end up doing.
What to know before booking gamescom
The week is longer than the five public days. gamescom dev is 23 to 25 August. If you only book 26 to 30 you will miss the industry half. Wear shoes that survive concrete halls. The business and entertainment areas have different hours. Confirm opening times on the official page the week you travel. Hall plans move.
What runs alongside gamescom
Named events on their own dates, and in several cases their own tickets. Booking the main days only is how people miss them.
- gamescom dev23 to 25 August 2026
The developer programme that runs before the public show, with its own talks, mixers and curated industry side events. A separate week from the five public days and easy to miss if you only book 26 to 30 August.
- Opening Night Live25 August 2026
The showcase the evening before the halls open. Streamed, which means the announcements do not require a ticket.
gamescom: common questions
How much are gamescom tickets?
A day ticket is EUR 31.50 Thursday, Friday or Sunday and EUR 41 on the Saturday, reduced rates EUR 22.50 and EUR 32. An evening card from 16:00 is EUR 10.50. Every consumer ticket includes public transport for the day. The Wednesday Wildcard is EUR 65.50.
Is gamescom open to the public?
Yes, but not on every day. Wednesday 26 August is built for trade and media, with public entry that afternoon only for Wildcard holders. From Thursday the entertainment halls open to ordinary ticket holders. Trade passes and consumer tickets are separate products and are not interchangeable.
What is a gamescom Wildcard?
A ticket type that lets a member of the public in on the trade-first Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the general opening on Thursday. If you want the show before the crowds arrive and you do not hold a trade badge, it is the only way in on day one.
When is Opening Night Live?
25 August 2026, the evening before the halls open. It is streamed, so the announcements that come out of gamescom reach you whether or not you fly to Cologne. If the news is your only reason for going, there is no reason to go.
What are the gamescom dev dates?
23 to 25 August 2026, before the public show opens. gamescom dev is the industry half of the week, with its own talks and a curated list of side events. Booking only 26 to 30 August means missing it, which is the mistake first-time business visitors make most often.
Which gamescom day is quietest?
Wednesday and Thursday. Saturday is the crush and is the day to avoid if you intend to actually play anything or hold a conversation. If you are there for meetings rather than for the floor, treat Saturday as a travel day.
How do I get from Cologne station to Koelnmesse?
Koeln Messe/Deutz is one S-Bahn stop from Koeln Hauptbahnhof, or a twenty-minute walk across the Hohenzollern bridge. At closing time the walk is quicker than a taxi. The halls are on the right bank in Deutz, not in the old town.
How big is gamescom?
The 2025 edition drew more than 357,000 visitors, of whom over 34,000 were trade visitors, alongside 1,568 exhibitors from 72 countries. Those are official post-show figures for 2025, not projections for 2026. The 2026 floor sold out fully for the first time in eighteen editions.
Where should I stay for gamescom?
Deutz for walking distance, the old town across the river if you accept the tram, or Duesseldorf about thirty minutes out for roughly half the price. Rooms inside the Cologne ring go months ahead and the late-booking penalty during gamescom week is severe.
