What is Cannes Lions?

Cannes Lions is the advertising and marketing industry's awards festival, held each June at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. The 2027 dates are 21 to 25 June. It is two things at once: a genuine creative awards competition with a jury process that the industry takes seriously, and a week of client entertainment on the Croisette that has very little to do with the awards. Which one you are buying determines whether the cost is justified.

Who goes to Cannes Lions?

Agency creative and leadership, brand marketing chiefs, platform and media owner sales teams, and production companies. It is the most senior and most expensive week in the marketing calendar. A large share of attendance is funded by platforms and media owners hosting clients rather than by agencies buying their own passes.

Cannes Lions side events

The beach programme is the festival's real centre of gravity. Platforms, publishers and holding companies take over the beaches along the Croisette for the week with their own stages, panels and parties, most of them invitation-only and none of them part of the official Palais programme. Yacht hospitality is a genuine fixture rather than a cliche. Aspire does not run any of it.

Cannes Lions tickets and costs

Passes for 2027 were not on sale when this page was last checked; the official site was taking registrations of interest instead. Cannes Lions is historically among the most expensive passes in this directory, running into the thousands, and accommodation is the larger cost. Hotel and apartment prices on the Croisette rise several times over for the festival week and the good stock is taken a year ahead.

Getting to Palais des Festivals et des Congres

Nice Cote d'Azur airport is about 30 minutes by road, longer during the festival, and there is a direct bus and a train via Nice-Ville. The Palais is on the seafront in the centre of Cannes and everything festival-related is walkable from it. Driving into Cannes during the week is not worth attempting.

Where to stay for Cannes Lions

On or near the Croisette if the budget allows, because the beach programme and the Palais are both there. Many attendees stay in Antibes, Juan-les-Pins or Nice and commute in by train, which is materially cheaper and adds 20 to 40 minutes each way. Book roughly a year ahead; this is not an exaggeration for Cannes.

What to know before booking Cannes Lions

The attendance figures circulating for Cannes Lions do not agree. Third-party sources variously report around 12,000, 13,000 to 15,000, and more than 15,000 delegates for recent editions, and the organiser does not publish a number on its own pages. This directory therefore declines to quote one. Treat any listing that states a precise Cannes Lions headcount with the same suspicion you would apply to a hotel price on the Croisette.
