What is Salone del Mobile?

Salone del Mobile is the world's furniture and design fair, held at Fiera Milano in Rho each April. The 2027 dates are 13 to 18 April. The 2026 edition drew 316,342 visitors from 167 countries. The critical thing to understand before booking is that the fair and Milan Design Week are two different things happening at once: the Salone is the ticketed trade fair at the fairground, and Fuorisalone is the city-wide programme of brand installations that runs alongside it.

Who goes to Salone del Mobile?

Furniture and lighting manufacturers exhibiting, and architects, interior designers, specifiers, retail buyers and distributors sourcing. Press and design-adjacent brands attend in volume for the Fuorisalone rather than the halls. It is a trade fair with an enormous public-facing shadow, and the two audiences barely overlap.

Salone del Mobile side events

Fuorisalone is the shadow programme and for many attendees it is the actual reason to travel: brand installations, showroom openings and parties across Brera, Tortona, Isola and the city centre, organised independently of Federlegno. None of it is at the fairground and none of it is run by the Salone. Aspire does not run any of it either.

Salone del Mobile tickets and costs

Tickets are sold through the official site; no price was published on the page checked, so none is quoted here. Decide first which event you are attending. The fairground in Rho is a 30 to 40 minute metro ride from the centre, so a day at the Salone and an evening at Fuorisalone is a long day with a long commute in the middle. Milan in mid-April is mild.

Getting to Fiera Milano, Rho

Fiera Milano in Rho has its own metro station, Rho Fiera, on line M1, roughly 30 to 40 minutes from the centre. It is also on the mainline rail network. Malpensa is the closest airport to the fairground; Linate is closer to the city and therefore to Fuorisalone.

Where to stay for Salone del Mobile

Central Milan for Fuorisalone, accepting the daily commute to Rho. Staying near the fairground puts you a long way from the evening programme, which is where most of the value is for anyone not exhibiting. Book far earlier than the ticket, and consider a commuter town on the rail line when the city is full.

What to know before booking Salone del Mobile

Milan accommodation during design week is the hardest booking problem of any event in this directory bar Oktoberfest. Rates multiply and supply is gone months ahead, because the whole city is the venue rather than one hall. Book before you have decided your schedule, not after. Note also that the Salone runs a biennial rotation of specialist sub-fairs, so what is on the floor differs between years.
