What is Art Basel Miami?

Art Basel Miami Beach is the American edition of the Art Basel fairs, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The 2026 dates are 4 to 6 December. It is a market rather than an exhibition: galleries come to sell, collectors come to buy, and the surrounding week has grown into one of the densest brand and corporate hospitality calendars in the United States. That second half is why a business directory carries it.

Who goes to Art Basel Miami?

Galleries exhibiting, collectors and advisors buying, museum and institutional acquisition teams, and a very large contingent of brands, sponsors and corporate hospitality using the week for entertaining. The commercial audience around the fair is now comparable in size to the art audience inside it.

Art Basel Miami side events

Miami during Art Basel week is effectively a city-wide programme. Satellite fairs, gallery openings, brand activations and private dinners run across Miami Beach, the Design District and Wynwood, most of them invitation-only and organised independently of Art Basel. For a large share of attendees the fair itself is the smaller part of the trip. Aspire does not run any of it.

The three public days follow invitation-only preview days, which is when most significant sales happen, so a public ticket buys a different event from the one collectors attend. Early December in Miami is the pleasant season and the city is at its most expensive.

Getting to Miami Beach Convention Center

Miami International is about 30 minutes to South Beach outside peak, and Fort Lauderdale is a viable alternative. The Miami Beach Convention Center is walkable from most of South Beach. Traffic across the causeways during Art Basel week is substantially worse than usual.

Where to stay for Art Basel Miami

South Beach puts you walking distance from the convention centre and much of the evening programme. The Design District and Wynwood host a large share of the satellite events and are a drive away. Miami hotel rates in Art Basel week are at or near their annual peak; book well ahead.

What to know before booking Art Basel Miami

It collides with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which runs 4 to 6 December 2026, the same three days. Anyone working across both the art market and Gulf corporate hospitality has to choose. Note also that Art Basel runs sibling fairs in Basel, Paris, Hong Kong and Qatar, so check which one a listing means before booking flights.
